There is no doubt that the lockdown has got most of us feeling bored and uninspired. There are only so many skype or zoom calls one can have before the conversation dries up and we end up talking about the weather AGAIN.

We have found a few great games to play with family and friends that have been creating many hours (some of them tipsy) of fun and entertainment. Give these ideas a try and you may learn a thing or two about your friends and family as well!

1. 7 Second Draw Off

This is such a fun and easy game that will have your  creative juices flowing and will have you crying with laughter at the things people can come up with.

Players : The game is best played with 3 or more people

You will need :

  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Timer

How to play:

One person will be the judge and will start off by saying an animal, such as Elephant, spider or kangaroo. The other players will hold their pen in the view of the camera to show that they are not cheating while the judge sets a timer for 7 seconds.

The players have 7 seconds and 7 SECONDS ONLY to draw the animal. The ‘artists’ will then hold their drawing up to the camera so the judge can review and pick their favourite one.

The winner then becomes the judge for the new round and picks an animal to continue the game. Easy as that! Change the subject to something like “draw my favourite thing in the world” and see how well your friends know you and how good you are at guessing what on earth they just drew.

2. Scavenger hunt

This one is REALLY fun and will give you a chance to actually make use of that active wear that you have been living in.

Players : The game is best played with 3 or more people

You will need :

  • Fierce competitiveness

How to play:

There will be a designated ‘selector’

The selector will pick a random household object, the other players will then run off to find that object and bring it to the camera. The first person to return with the object wins and will be the next designated ‘selector’

Fun twist: Play as a drinking game by making the last person back have to take a large sip of their drink!

 3. Bingo

We all know bingo, right?  Well here is how to play it virtually.

Players : The game is best played with 4 or more people

You will need :

  • Pen
  • Paper

How to play:

One person will be the Caller who will be in charge of sending out the bingo cards to the players and drawing out the numbers and calling them out. Follow this link to find some already made bingo cards: https://myfreebingocards.com/numbers/1-75/30-free-cards

The caller will have to call out a number randomly between 1 & 75 while each player has to mark off the number on their card that was called out.

Round 1: The first person to have a line vertically, horizontally or diagonally and shouts bingo wins.

Round 2: The first person to have 2 lines vertically or horizontally and should bingo wins.

Round 3: The first person to have all the numbers and shouts bingo wins.

Spice it up by adding a 20 second dance break every 5 – 10 numbers called.

Here are the fun nicknames for you to call out that we have come up with for the numbers:

4. Pub Quiz

Okay so this one takes a bit of prep beforehand but let’s be honest, it’s not like you don't have the time. This is a virtual spin on the classic pub quiz that everyone loves.

This game is best played with 4 or more people and you will need to play in a video calling app that allows players to message each other privately or you could use WhatsApp. We found it’s best played on the Zoom app.

Players : The game is best played with 4 or more people

You will need :

  • Pen
  • Paper

How to play:

There will be as many rounds as there are players and each player will get a chance to host a round. Let’s say there are 4 players each player will play 3 rounds and host one round, which means the quiz will be out of 30 points.

Each player will be designated a theme and will have to come up with maximum 10 questions for that round.

Here are some examples of themes: Sport, History, Geography, Current events or you could even make them more specific such as Disney, Harry Potter, fashion, make-up, food and so on.

Some ideas for coming up with questions have at least one of the following

  • True or False
  • Anagram
  • Song round (play 5 seconds of a song relating to your theme) players need to guess the name of the song and artist
  • Picture round - Send or show a picture to other plays to guess the name of a character, sport, make-up artist and so on
  • Multiple choice
  • Regular question and answer.

Game play: The host of the round will ask the players their questions giving them between 10 – 15 seconds to answer. The players will then send the host a message with the answer on a private chat so that the host will be the only one to see the answers. If you do not answer in the 10-15 seconds you get 0 for that question. This is to ensure that players don’t have time to cheat. At the end of that round the host will post the score in the group chat. At the end the score will be tallied up and the player with the highest score wins.
